HCV – Housing Choice Vouchers Program (Section 8)

Currently, the waiting list is closed and no new applications are being accepted at this time.  The approximate waiting list time for this program is five years or longer.

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program allows participants to rent a unit from a private landlord who agrees to certain terms and conditions as set forth by the federal government.

  • Residents pay approximately 30% of household income towards rent.
  • Federal guidelines give priority to families whose income is less than 30% of the median. In Aurora, this is a $23,970 annual income for a family of four.
  • Families cannot make more than 50% of the area median income (AMI) to be eligible for the HCV program at admission. In 2015, this amount is $39,950 for a family of four. (HUD income limits)
